Why Choose Our Wood Carving Chisel Sets?
Premium Materials for Durability and Precision
Selecting a good chisel set can be overwhelming, as finding the right balance between high-end types of sets and reasonable prices is not always easy.
Whether you are just starting out or have been carving for years, the things that affect your choice of a chisel kit largely depend on the durability and precision of each wood chisel.
You are likely to invest in a wood chisel set that maintains sharp edges over time and offers a high level of accuracy, as this affects the final look and feel of your work. Precision in chiseling enables intricate details, smooth finishes, and consistency, while durability provides better resistance of the wood carving chisel set to wear, handles different types of wood, and allows for various carving techniques, letting you spend more time carving and less time sharpening or repairing.
Sharky Forged Steel Tools™ manufactures chisel sets that cater to both beginners and seasoned craftsmen. We use 52100 hardened, hand-forged high-carbon steel (ASTM A295) for excellent edge retention and remarkable durability, making it suitable for both fine work and more demanding tasks. The hand-forging process itself enhances control over the steel properties, resulting in improved hardness and longer edge retention.
Each handle is crafted from ash wood, providing comfort and ensuring better control during carving sessions.
The materials used in each professional wood chisel set are easy to maintain and allow for customization if you know which handle or notch length, blade width, or bevel type best matches your carving style.
Ergonomically Designed for Comfort
Each wood chisel set we manufacture features lightweight ash wood handles designed to fit the natural contours of the hand for a more relaxed grip.
The natural properties of ash wood provide an excellent shock absorption, crucial for intense carving sessions. The unique grain pattern offers a tactile, non-slip surface, allowing carvers to maintain a steady hand and execute intricate details with accuracy.
By incorporating these features into our carving chisel set, we ensure that both novice and experienced woodworkers can carve pieces of wood comfortably without discomfort.

The best wood chisel set provides the flexibility to choose the right tool for intricate details, broad strokes, or specific types of wood. Elements like handle size, blade width, and length can be tailored to your specific requirements.
Tips for Maintaining Your Wood Carving Chisels
How to Sharpen Your Chisels
The process of sharpening a set of wood chisels involves three stages: grinding, honing, and polishing.
Grinding is the first step necessary to remove any nicks or damage and setting the initial bevel angle. You will need a coarse sharpening stone or a grinding wheel for that. Maintain a consistent angle of 25 degrees and move it back and forth across the stone or wheel.
Next, refine the edge using a finer sharpening stone (1000-4000 grit waterstone) or honing guide, moving the chisel in a figure-eight motion.
Finish with a very fine sharpening stone (8000 grit or higher) or a leather strop. Apply a polishing compound for an extra-fine finish.
Proper Cleaning and Storage
Proper maintenance of your chisel set woodworking tools extends their lifespan and efficiency. Wipe them down with a clean, dry cloth to remove dust. You may want to use a soft-bristled brush to remove any stubborn grime. After cleaning, dry the chisels and apply a light coat of oil to prevent rust.
Store chisels in a dry, cool place, ideally in a chisel case or a wooden rack with individual slots for each tool. For easy access, consider a magnetic strip in your workshop.
