I’m really happy with this carving set! The included leather strop for regular sharpening is excellent – it keeps the knife perfectly sharp. The knife itself feels great in the hand and is easy to resharpen.
One small suggestion: it would be nice to have a safety glove included, or at least available as an option. Working with round wood is a bit trickier than with square pieces (my opinion), especially for beginners or children, so a bit of extra safety would be great.
Overall, a fantastic set that’s fun to use and of great quality!

Very impressive at first glance. Polished cutting edge needs no additional work to make sharp. Have yet to see how the steel holds an edge over time. The concave face is tricky to sharpen. Qiute well pleased with the tool so far. Made in Ukraine?

Over time, you’ll find that the steel holds its edge exceptionally well, even with regular use. The concave face can indeed take a bit of practice to sharpen, but once you get the hang of it, it’s quite straightforward. We really appreciate your trust in our work!
The bowl gouge is hand-forged & well made with an ash handle & a sharp, polished edge. All the gouges I ordered were very well packed, & shipping from Warsaw to Texas only took 5 days! The price-point is unbeatable!

I love this axe. Comparing it to my Kalthoff Small Carver I find it very evenly balanced. The weight at just under 1.5 pounds is just right for me. The price was a real bargain. Highly recommended for spoon carving.

Use the knife now for a reasonable time, and I have to say that I use this knife more often than my other knives. Especially because of the shape of the sleade. The knife is easy to keep sharp. Disadvantage of buying in the Netherlands is the import duties that come on top of the price (about € 15,-) I had not taken this into account. Nevertheless, I am very happy with the knife. A good addition to my wood carving knives.

The case is beautifully crafted and sturdy. It's best suited for shorter and narrower knives, as my 15" throwing knives are too long and a bit too wide for it. Nevertheless, it does a good job protecting the blades and tips. I would love to see one made longer and with wider pockets for larger knives.

Absolutely worth it! Gorgeous, and they cut through leather smoother than any tools I’ve used before.
I’ve been carving in some way or another for about 30 yrs using knives and basic gouges. My ancestors were blacksmiths so I was drawn to forgedsteeltools when I searched for a curved spoon/bowl gouge. The small “bowl gouge” sounded good and I bought one. Upon arrival, it was exact what I expected: rugged, good quality materials and well made. However, it was not sharp and the bevel was curved, (handle to edge) making it difficult for me to sharpen (no tormek). So I’ve been working on developing a flat bevel behind the edge and it is getting sharper. It does to seem to hold an edge nicely so I’m pretty sure I’ll love it once I get it as sharp as my other gouges.

Personally i wasn't impresses by the build quality or the function of the tool with the handle being out of line with the cutting edge its easy to tilt the cutting edge up and the blade is quite thin in my opinion

I purchased this first set of leather cutting tools back in May of 2025, which took a bit longer to receive than I was hoping. So I emailed Forged Steel Tools in the Ukraine, and they assured me that they were a legitimate blacksmith shop and that I’d receive my order within the next week.
When the set arrived, I was supremely pleased with the quality of the product(s), and they’ve been my “Go-To” tools ever since, and I have many.
